There is a restaurant in our neighborhood in San Francisco that serves really spectacular pizza… they don’t take reservations and happen to reside on the busiest block in the hood, which means parking is painfully difficult to come by. That all said, my kids + i LOVE to go there for lunch.
After many fiascos early on, we quickly discovered there were only 2 high chairs to be had– so if we were serious about that slice of pizza, we had to be ready to rumble at 11:40, and not a minute later. I have done whatever it takes to secure those highchairs: promised wine, short skirts, big tips– because the alternative, down the street is the Johnny Rockets, but I just can’t eat another cheese burger or grilled cheese sandwich from their grill!
It is these shameless moments, I PINE for Pizzeria Tra Vigne and their yummy, old school pizza, parked right off of the train track in St. Helena and their enormous parking lot, dozen high chairs, dreamy outdoor courtyard, icy cold draft BEER + pitchers of raspberry lemonade, top 40 music and pool table.
In a county chock full of famous food + fancy wines, Pizzeria Tra Vigne is a local’s joint and a parents’ dream come true, serving really excellent wood-oven baked pizza– the kind we all loved as kids, where the cheese was sort of salty and spread across the pie perfectly, and finished with a crunchy crust. Particular favorite is the Ducati pizza– a caveman’s delight loaded with spicy sausage, pepperoni and mushrooms. This is a perfect Friday-night spot with little people and grown up friends, all having a grand time!

I’m crazy for Tra Vigne! Their patio is what summer night dreams are made of. Making a note to check out the pizzeria next time I’m in the hood.
