Winery + vineyard owners/ residents of Oakville LISTEN UP, fast…. Because before you know it , our beloved 144 year old Oakville Post Office will be shut down… Yes, shut down– and for all of us who have fought so vigilantly for the OAKVILLE APPELATION and the rights to boast Oakville, we may soon see OAKVILLE 94562 vanish from our letter head, business cards, shipping labels, fed ex accounts, official business address– and instead see Yountville or Napa in its place…I don’t know about you, but this does not sit well with me/ us.
What is most interesting is that NOT ALL of the 350 residents of Oakville even know that their post office is in peril of being shut down forever… Why?? Because the US Postal Service does not allow public posting of such information and the postmaster isn’t allowed to even discuss/ confirm or deny what is going on.
… H-e-l-l-o????
The Veterans’ Home in Yountville is running into the same situation with their post office, but they are fighting back, marching + picketing— and we need to do the same. In case you didn’t notice, their fury with the US Postal Service made the front page of the Yountville Sun, rallying support from their residents for an upcoming meeting on Monday with representatives from the US Postal Service. Oakville does not have a weekly paper to shout out such indignation or rally the troops.
I care about this issue for the obvious reasons… but I also care because the Post Office has been woven in the fabric of this community since 1857, and is the nucleus of our tiny town.
That said, here is what we do know– and please, forward this to anyone you know in the town of Oakville– there will be a meeting on Wednesday, October 26th at 5:30 at the Rutherford Grange to discuss the facts/ options/ alternatives/ solutions. Everyone who can be there should ( my parents + I will be away, but we will for sure send the most passionate supporters from our company). Neighbors, please rally here.

Thanks for sharing this, Alexis! We can’t lose the Oakville Post Office– we’ll help spread the word.
Save the nostalgia of America!! I am from Canada and have lived in the US for 20 years. I have stumbled into situations as such, that America dismisses there heritage and culture for some more attractive monetary relationship. 40 years later they want it back! Please lets keep American Heritage alive.
