Ira Yeager is a world-famous painter above all things, and an almost equally famous bohemian/ raconteur/ entertainer from Northern California (mostly in Calistoga), acting as though he were living in the 18th century. Ira is my mom’s best friend + is the wildest eccentric I know, with a mad mane of hair covered in flecks of paint + a permanently raised Dali-esque brow– always sharing exotic, naughty tales from every corner of the earth.

At the end of Money Road, in Oakville is the Oakville Vineyard Bed + Breakfast née The End of Money Road Inn– a haven for the curious, eccentric and bohemians visiting the area. It is the very best kept secret, situated on an old compound/ commune [think Marie Antoinette’s peasant village at the Petit Trianon] surrounded by hundreds of acres of vineyards, plus the resident chickens, roosters and goats on the loose. This otherworldly b+b is where we send all of our friends, aunts and cousins when the houses get too full in the summertime. FYI: there are 3 bedrooms in this raised cottage, perfect for friends traveling together!

Napoleon bars, apple fritters, red velvet doughnuts, bear claws, maple bars and champagne cake slices with cherry on top…I want to get to the heart of the matter as quickly as possible.

Buttercream Bakery + Diner has been around since practically the beginning of time– and the great news is, it looks/ feels/ smells that way. The service is a little lacking, but their ambiance is second-to-none, and the visual stimulation is off the charts. Expect to be treated badly; expect to smell like grease for days; expect to be charmed.

The Swanson Sip Shoppe is a candy store for adults: reinventing the rituals of fine wine, reviving the nightcap, offering clever clandestine delights + gifts. The Sip Shoppe is a decadent wine emporium offering something for everyone…. from the old fashioned Clarke’s Bark candy bar (made in partnership with Vosges Haut Chocolat) to the extra- rare “Angelica” made from vines dating back to 1865, to our must-have gift, the Modern House Wines.

Giugni’s deli is a local darling/ institution/ obsession that has been around for over a 100 years, as lore has it. Giugni’s is as famous for their sandwiches as they are their ridiculously delicious Giugni Juice – that JUICE is a staple ingredient in all their sandwiches, made up of olive oil, vinegar, herbs de Provence and roasted garlic – and worth the trip alone!

A visit to Giugni’s is like a walk down memory lane, with date stamps.  The walls lined in old covers of grocery store tabloids like NATIONAL ENQUIRER and the SUN.  Magazine covers looking for aliens, Elvis, Jimmy Hoffa, and Jesus.  Charming when you are young, mildly painful as you glide through adulthood.  The shop is PACKED with old-school candies that you thought went into extinction– candies like PoP Rocks + Zots.  The Cold boxes are filled with old goodies like Hawaiian Punch and Fanta (no TAB here, sorry!).  If that all isn’t enough credibility, they are true LOYALISTS when it comes to the dozen or so racks of chips– not only carrying the trendiest chips in the market, but also the guiltiest of pleasures, like Fritos, Xtra Cheesy/ Xtra hot Cheetos, Cheese Puffs, and my other favorite sandwich accoutrements:  Ruffles Sour Cream + Onion chips.

With her signature aesthetic, incredible vintage antiques, amazing books and curiosities, Erin Martin’s shop “M” on Main Street is a destination store that inspires all day long.

Indian Springs Hotel + Spa, nestled at the farthest end of Napa Valley, is one of the more charming and nostalgic relics standing.   A time capsule + healing refuge, where the spirit of California is alive + well at their historic spa, in the form of old school volcanic ash mud baths – a kind of experience and procedure that hasn’t changed in over a hundred years. Everything about Indian Springs has a vintage feel about it:  the menu of services, facilities, architecture, landscape, accommodations, and amusements.  Go! Go! Go!

Dim Sum Charlie’s epitomizes what the California food truck craze is all about– original concepts + tasty food with options like the “Ten Dolla To Make You Holla” sampler!!  A local favorite, adjacent to the Oxbow Market in Napa, Dim Sum Charley’s rocks Dim Sum out of a fully restored Air Stream trailer. Seating is out of a movie-set complete with fire pits, Adirondack chairs, and voluminous awning covers.  The best part is that the Napa Valley Wine Train depot is directly behind, so the ambiance only gets better by the hour.

I have been trying to find information on this Oakville Vineyard B&B (End of Money Rd. Inn) I can find pictures online but the website is down and the phone # is disconnected… is this wonderful B&B you speak of no longer? If this is not the case, can anyone provide accurate contact information for me?
